You and the pediatric dentist are partners in your child’s dental care. Assisting your child at home whenever he or she does his dental routine of toothbrushing and flossing is a practical step toward excellent dental care. But you also need to follow-thru on that by regularly visiting your child’s dentist.
Often, a child’s inadequate dental hygiene can lead to poor dental and even overall health. Poor dental hygiene can be the cause of painful tooth decay and other problematic dental diseases. Some parents also think that it is alright not to take care of their kids’ baby teeth since they will fall out eventually. However, studies show otherwise. In the US, tooth decay is the single most common chronic disease in children. Tooth decay in kids can lead to eating, speaking, and learning problems. Because of poor oral health in kids, issues like lack of nutrition missed school days, and learning progress occurs.
Getting a head start in your child’s dental care matters as they grow. Prevention is better than cure. Child dental care is so vital because it helps stop dental problems from happening. Child dental care benefits our kids more than we know since it helps them stay away from cavities, tooth decay, and other dental complications along the way. It will spare them from all the discomfort, tears, and tantrums so that going to the dentist does not have to be a traumatic experience for them.
Given the importance of child dental care and its impact on our kids’ overall wellbeing, we strongly suggest that we adhere to these three simple pointers:
1. Maintain a proper and regular dental routine with your kids. Help them in their daily brushing and flossing routine. Remember to brush the teeth twice daily for a full 2 minutes each time.
2. Regularly visit your child’s dentist. The pediatric dentist knows what to look for to keep your child’s dental health secure and on the right track. Plus, make sure to follow through on the visits every six months.
3. Encourage your children to eat and drink healthy. Give your kids a balanced, healthy diet. Shun away from sweet treats and sugary drinks. And give them foods that will make their teeth strong and healthy.
There’s no better time to start your kids’ optimal dental care than now. Start them young, and they will surely thank you when they’re all grown-up.
